The NYPD Is Really Cracking Down On Subway Dancers

All New Yorkers know what happens when they hear "What time is it?" "Showtime!" on the subway.  Seeing them go will be bitter sweet….more sweet. Maybe it’s just me but riding the NYC subway is stressful enough; but adding the worry of whether this kid will kick me in the face during one of his daring moves or the guilt associated with deciding not to drop money in his hat. It’s too much.

Spike Lee Set To Celebrate Classic Film With Block Party

This Saturday, June 28th, Spike Lee will return to the exact location, on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington and Quincy avenues where the film was shot, for a special block party aptly dubbed, “Do The Right Thing Day.” While announcing the commemorative event earlier this week, the director expressed the importance of returning to the film’s classic backdrop.

Vaunt & Sol will be sending models down the runway for the first time at Fashion Week. 

Nicole Vaunt and Najva Sol (who currently resides in Crown Heights, Brooklyn) are the women behind fashion label Vaunt & Sol — are debuting their first runway-ready collection at Fashion Week Fall 2014, capping off more than a decade of collaborating on everything from designing costumes for the annual Nevada desert festival Burning Man, to cutting fabric together on their living room floor as high schoolers in Mississippi, to traveling across the globe to gather fashion inspiration from around the world.

Vaunt & Sol will be showing their collection on Wednesday Feb. 5 at MNY 55 located at 55 West 17th St. at 2 p.m.

African-American “Brooklyn” History: Shirley Chisholm

This Brooklyn native born to immigrant parents (Barbados and British Guiana) was the first African-American congresswoman (1969 -1983) and the first African American to run for president for a major party (1972).

Last week the United States Postal Service added her image to the Black Heritage collection.

Fashion Week's Top Show Moves To Brooklyn

Alexander Wang announced that he will be staging his Feb. 8 runway show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard for this season’s New York Fashion Week, foregoing the usual Pier 94 location in the city. 

Ha! Good for the BK. Finally Brooklynites will save on hefty cab fares from having to trek into the city.
